Peated Japanese Whisky Releases

Nikka Launches Frontier in France and South Korea

Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. launches 'Frontier,' a blended whisky first released domestically in October 2024, to markets outside Japan in March 2026, starting with South Korea and France. The 48% ABV, non-chill-filtered 500ml release features a heavily peated Yoichi malt alongside a mix of other malts, reflecting the brand’s centenary-era tribute to founder Masataka Taketsuru and his frontier spirit.

The bottle pairs a corporate-style "N" on the front with an embossed shimenawa motif on the back, linking bottle design to Nikka’s sake-brewing heritage. Nikka described Frontier as composed of more than 51% diverse malts with Yoichi as the flagship component, and the rollout follows distribution agreements and recent capital investments to expand global supply.

For consumers, Frontier offers a smoky, malty expression that broadens international access to Japanese peat-forward whisky and underscores continuing global demand for regionally distinct spirits.
