Volvo Trucks’ new FH Electric configuration can handle gross combination weights of up to 80 tonnes, while delivering up to 420 kilometers of range at 76 tonnes. Its 640 kWh usable battery capacity is supported by improved insulation and battery monitoring for colder climates, while 680 kW megawatt charging can take the battery from 20% to 80% in approximately 36 minutes.
The configuration could make electric trucks practical for more demanding freight, timber and lighter construction operations where payload capacity has limited adoption. For fleet operators, combining heavier loads with extended range can reduce the number of trips required while supporting lower-emission transport strategies. Volvo also gains an opportunity to expand its electric portfolio into specialized heavy-haul segments as commercial fleets face growing pressure to reduce transportation emissions.
