Fermented Plant-Based Butters

Willicroft Makes Vegan Butter from Fermented Beans

Willicroft is known for its plant-based cheese alternatives and the Dutch startup recently launched its first non-cheese product in the form of a fermented plant-based butter called The Original Better. This all-natural, cultured and palm oil-free product mimics the taste, texture and performance features of conventional dairy butter.

This product has been in the works for two years and it makes the most of a fermentation process that mimics the richness of high-end dairy butter without artificial ingredients. Fermented beans form the base of this product and in comparison to other kinds of plant-based butter spreads, this one has lower levels of saturated fats, all the while delivering the qualities that consumers crave. With beans at the base of this product, the carbon footprint is significantly reduced.
