This Federico Piatti Art is Broadly Inspired

Argentine artist Federico Piatti melds fable and pop-culture in these wryly whimsical illustrations. A giant women stares menacingly down at two gruff bikers taking in one piece. In another, a valiant young knight draws his sword and prepares an attack upon what appears to be an evil wizard.

There are few restrictions on the inspiration behind these works; they are at the height of lateral thinking, sliding from one trope of pop culture to another, weaving each piece into a tapestry of fantasy and nostalgia.

Beyond the substance of the work, the technique Piatti employs is apt. The illustrations have an impressionistic, sketch-like feel to them. Browsing through the scenes of cowboys, bikers and musketeers provides all the whimsy and nonchalance of a child’s daydream.
