For seniors, falls pose serious threats to health and safety, and the new 'FallSkip' app is designed to help reduce their likelihood. The app uses gait analysis as well as a host of other features to assess a given patient's chances of falling, which doctors can then use to make decisions about future care.
FallSkip is designed for doctors (rather than for patients to use on their own). It comes with a purpose-built waistband that, in conjunction with any Android smartphone, can run diagnostics on patients' gaits, coordination, reaction time, and strength. It then harmonizes this data into a unified score that the doctor uses to help patients maintain autonomy in their daily lives.
The analysis behind FallSkip is based on the widely accepted TUG methodology, merely making it a more universally available system thanks to the prevalence of smartphones.
