LaVonda Brown, a Georgia Tech student, has developed a new app that can determine if a user is sober enough to drive. Dubbed the EyeGage, LaVonda Brown's design is currently competing at this year's Disrupt Startup Battlefield competition.
The EyeGage app is free and works by assessing a user's eyes and determining whether or not they are sober enough to get behind the wheel. EyeGage is currently working on compiling a database of eye types and measuring the impact of alcohol on different eye features. The startup plans to conduct a study where participants consume alcohol, and researchers will assess how eyes change in intoxicated individuals.
The company plans to develop a similar database and technology that can access the levels of other substances in the body - such as marijuana and drugs.
