Mercedes-AMG built the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung as an ultra-focused V8 coupe featuring a reworked M177 EVO 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft and a bespoke titanium exhaust with an Akrapovič-developed cold-end section. The car is rear-wheel drive only and is the second entry in Mercedes-Benz’s Mythos Series.
The CLE 646 produces 646 metric horsepower, or about 637 SAE hp, and 850 Nm of torque. Power travels through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, helping the coupe reach 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 193 mph. Engineering includes four-way adjustable steel coilovers, carbon-ceramic brakes, extensive carbon-fiber bodywork, a body widened by about 60 mm at each axle, race-configurable aerodynamics and a stripped interior with racing bucket seats and an integrated rollover bar. Production is limited to 30 cars, all of which were allocated before the model’s premiere.
For drivers, the CLE 646 promises a raw, mechanical experience through reduced weight, track-style adjustability and an emphasis on driver engagement. Its limited production and motorsport hardware position it as a collector-focused AMG halo car, reflecting how luxury automakers use highly exclusive performance models to strengthen brand heritage and serve top-tier clients.

What's Driving This Trend
- Ultra-limited Halo Cars
- Scarce production runs paired with pre-sold allocations create new value around exclusivity, provenance, and private-client brand ecosystems.
- Analog Performance Revival
- Rear-wheel-drive layouts, mechanical feedback, and stripped interiors highlight demand for emotionally engaging vehicles amid increasingly digital mobility experiences.
- Motorsport-derived Luxury
- Track-grade aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic braking, and adjustable suspension systems elevate collector cars into road-legal expressions of racing technology.
Who This Affects Most
- Luxury Automotive
- Prestige automakers can use bespoke performance models to reinforce heritage, deepen loyalty, and justify premium pricing beyond conventional product cycles.
- Performance Aftermarket
- Specialized exhaust, suspension, and lightweight material suppliers gain visibility as factory collaborations turn niche motorsport components into luxury differentiators.
- Collectible Assets
- Low-volume vehicles with strong brand narratives and technical rarity expand the overlap between enthusiast ownership, alternative investment, and status-driven collecting.
