Disney+ will be limiting its video quality ahead of its European launch. The company is taking these steps ahead of the European launch in order to limit its impact on bandwidth during the outbreak of COVID-19. A number of other streaming websites have taken similar actions, including Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube.
The Disney Chairman, Kevin Mayer, spoke about the decision, "In line with Disney's longstanding commitment to act responsibly, we are responding to the request of European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton to work together to ensure the smooth functioning of the broadband infrastructure."
Disney+ is currently available for sign up in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland.
