Energy-Wasting Tattletale Apps

Environmental Reporting App LightsOut Lets Users Note Harmful Acts

A new environmental reporting app called LightsOut provides users with an outlet to report energy wasting behavior. When other people do things that harm the earth, you can map places or report instances where it happened. By taking pictures of the event and geotagging it, you can make note of energy inefficient acts like leaving the lights on or a failure to separate recyclable materials properly. This gives people a chance to contribute to a larger conversation around conservation in their communities, while also taking tangible action.

The environmental reporting app comes from the mind of Spencer Lawrence. The clean and green app won 'Best in Show' at the Boston Cleanweb Hackathon, winning Lawrence and his team over $5,000 in prize money and a free entry to the startup accelerator CleanTech Open.
