This incredible ‘Energy Collection’ by Marjan van Aubel is a uniquely self-sufficient, solar-powered system. The way it works is that each piece of dishware is lined with a photovoltaic layer of a synthesized solar cell dye, which allows everyday objects to absorb energy from daylight.
The cabinet itself acts as a battery, and it stores all the energy collected from the objects. Specific colors were chosen for the dishware, as they are most likely to absorb light energy. For example, the shelf can be used to charge a phone, or to turn on a lamp -- this remarkable technology was actually invented by Michael Graetzel.
Due to the increased concern of energy waste and expensive bills, solar-powered alternatives are becoming an attractive alternative. Although not as commonly purchased, with technological advances, products such as the ‘Energy Collection’ by Marjan van Aubel are bound to become predominant in the market.
