The Barak electric bike conversion kit is a device, invented by mechanical engineer Micah Toll, that aims to make it easier than ever to convert regular bikes to electric bikes.
The Barak can be installed on almost any bicycle. It comprises a lithium-ion battery, controller, thumb throttle and a front wheel with a hub motor that replaces the bike's existing front wheel. It is claimed that the system can be installed without any special tools or expertise in only about 15 minutes. Barak-equipped bikes will have a range of between 20 and 30 miles per three-hour charge, and will capable of hitting a top speed of 32 km/h.
Toll has taken to Kickstarter to raise funds for production of his ingenious electric bike conversion kits. A pledge of $585 will land you the 350-watt, 20-inch version.
