The Easy Bake Oven Has Come a Long Way in 50 Years

This infographic from Jeremy at PartSelect.com chronicles the evolution of the iconic Easy Bake Oven.

In 2013, Easy Bake Oven celebrates its 50th year as a staple in many kids toy collections. The original Easy Bake Oven was released in 1963 and sold 500,000 units in the first year. It was the creation of Ronald Howes who was inspired by street vendors. This first toy oven used a heat-lamp; the original design cost, adjusted with inflation today would be $115.

Five years after the initial release, Betty Crocker released Easy Bake Cake Mix to go hand in hand with the oven. Fast forward to 1997 and 16 million ovens had been sold. Looking to break the gender stereotypes associated with the product, in 2002 Hasbro introduced the Queasy Bake Cookerator.

By 2011, over 23 million units had been sold.
