Privacy Web Browsers

DuckDuckGo is a Privacy-Focused Web Browser with Video Ad Blocking

The DuckDuckGo browser now includes video ad blocking that removes most advertisements during playback, including many shown on YouTube. The feature relies on open-source filter lists from the uBlock Origin community, with additional compatibility rules developed by DuckDuckGo. Enabled by default for most users on Windows, Mac, and iPhone, the update is designed to improve video viewing within the browser rather than through dedicated streaming applications. Android support is also rolling out, with manual activation currently available through the browser settings.

The ad blocker functions only when videos are watched inside the DuckDuckGo browser and can be turned on or off through the settings menu across supported platforms. DuckDuckGo notes that some users may experience longer buffering times or occasional compatibility issues while the filters are applied.

Video playback tools built directly into browsers are reshaping how audiences access streaming content, opening space for lightweight alternatives to app-based viewing ecosystems.
Open-source Ad Filtering
Community-maintained filter lists are becoming a foundation for commercial privacy features, signaling opportunities for hybrid models that combine public infrastructure with proprietary compatibility layers.
