Coffee Grounds-Topped Donuts

Duck Donuts is Topping Its Powdered Sugar Donut with Ground Coffee

In honor of National Coffee Day, Duck Donuts is putting a clever twist on its warm, made-to-order donuts.

Instead of serving up a coffee-filled donut like so many other chains, Duck Donuts is using coffee as a sort of garnish. For National Coffee Day, the donut chain came up with the idea of a powdered sugar donut topped with a dollop of buttercream and a sprinkling of coffee grounds. While the idea of using coffee grounds as a star ingredient may seem unusual, Duck Donuts Founder and CEO Russ DiGilio explains that since the chain is unable to fill its donuts due its made-to-order concept, the chain "took an innovative approach to finding a loophole that will satisfy the needs of our guests looking to enjoy a cream-filled donut."
