Carved Spoon Collections

This Artist Designed a Different Spoon for Each Day of the Year

Norwegian artist Stian Korntved Ruud set out to design a different spoon for each day of the year. While most people do not put much thought into everyday items such as spoons, Ruud has managed to turn the humble utensil into a work of art.

Ruud's series is called 'Daily Spoon' and it consists of 365 different wooden spoons. For an entire year, Ruud spent each day carving a different spoon. All of the spoons are made from wood and each boasts unique qualities such as rounded edges and asymmetrical handles. To create each spoon, Ruud relied on traditional hand tools instead of machinery. As a result, each spoon has a rustic quality that comes from the artist's unique woodworking skills.

The unusual collection explores the complex relationship between a spoon's form and its basic function.
