The Design Museum's crystal-only exhibit focuses on the relationship between memory and contemporary technology. According to director Deyan Sudjic, photographs, diaries and letters were once documented in print or bound within the pages of an album. Today, these once physical items are posted online, often instantaneously.
Artists Ron Arad, Maarten Baas and Fredrikson Stallad were called upon to examine this rapidly shifting reality. All of the installations are made of crystal in some shape or form.
Arad's piece is particularly interactive and well-suited to the 21st century theme. Fans of the designers Lolita installation are invited to tweet their recollections of the project. The short 140-word remarks are in turn displayed on his crystal-bound LED set, directly displaying yet another merger between technology and flash backs.
