This desert abode by Hoogland Architecture is located in the Mojave Desert, just outside Las Vegas. The home is structured to meet the needs of "an active couple who [is] nearing retirement." The love for the outdoors drove the clients to the small village of Blue Diamond which is in close proximity to the Red Rock Canyon — "a conservation area that is popular with hikers and rock climbers."
Thus, the couple employed Hoogland Architecture for a homey desert abode that could serve as a "base camp." The structure is low-lying and its color scheme helps the seamless integration into the beige-dominated surroundings. The desert abode has a decisively contemporary aesthetic and the architects use weathering steel and concrete to keep costs and future maintenance down.
