Habit-Breaking Phone Chargers

Minseo Jung's Cone Wireless Charger Enables Digital Detox Through Co

Designer Minseo Jung created the Cone Wireless Charger and Digital Detox, a cone-shaped wireless charger that physically discourages phone use by covering the screen. The device is shaped like an orange traffic cone and is placed atop a face-down phone, charging it wirelessly while hiding the display. The cone silhouette is intended to signal "do not use" and override the reflex to reach for the device.

The charger works by having you set your phone face-down, then place the small cone on top so charging continues while the screen is concealed. When not charging, the Cone doubles as a mini ambient light for a nightstand or desk, giving it a secondary decorative and functional role. It intentionally avoids competing on extra wattage or multi-device features.

For consumers, the Cone turns charging time into a passive pause by removing visual temptation and relying on physical design rather than software locks. Its low-tech psychological nudge offers a tactile approach to digital wellness and a simple alternative to app-based focus tools. As a concept, it reframes a common accessory as a behavior-changing object.
