German automaker BMW has gone ahead and unveiled an exceptionally high-tech compact luxury SUV at the Chengdu Motor Show, which is only appropriate given that this energy savings-focused vehicle is only going to be made available in the Chinese market.
The BMW X1 xDrive25Le iPerformance is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that is capable of producing 134 horsepower, while the electric motor adds 94 horsepower to make for a healthy combined total engine output, allowing the vehicle to zip from zero to 100 km/h in only 7.4 seconds. The plug-in hybrid format works in conjunction with electric drive power that helps optimize engine performance and minimize fuel consumption.
The popularity of the compact luxury SUV format coupled with the growing importance of eco-friendly and energy-efficient automotive solutions in China's polluted urban centers means that this is an intelligently targeted vehicle that is sure to resonate with Chinese auto-buyers.
