The Death ashtray by Lau Design is the perfect way for anti-smoking campaigns to reach their target audience.

We all love getting freebies, right? So imagine how effective it would be to give away these coffin-shaped ashtrays to smokers.

Each time the smoker ‘kills’ the cigarette, the ashtray reminds him that he’s slowly killing himself.

Implications - Product designers often try to imbue their creations with an incisive social or political statement to stand out from their competitors and resonate within a niche. As consumers become more aware of the dangers of smoking, there's an increased opportunity for designers to release subversive smoking accessories that shine a harsh, unfavorable light on this once-seductive ritual.
