Bosch recently introduced a new cloud-based cloud-detecting technology that aims to ensure self-driving vehicles remain safe on the road. According to Bosch, this new technology can allow automated vehicles the ability to understand sensations on the road in a similar way humans do while driving. According to Bosch management board member Dr. Dirk Hoheisel, this new cloud-detecting technology can alert autonomous vehicles to hazards "before critical situations can develop."
Bosch plans to release this cloud-detecting technology in 2020 and it will rely entirely on Foreca's weather information. However, in the future, the system will also take in information shared by self-driving cars to perfect its detecting system. Bosch hopes that this system will not have to hand over control to humans, even when conditions grow dangerous.
