Channel-Based AI Agents

Anthropic Has Introduced Claude Tag In Slack Beta

Anthropic launched Claude Tag, a workplace AI agent that embeds its Claude model directly into shared Slack channels, featuring an "@Claude" mention that brings the assistant into group threads. The beta is available for Enterprise and Team tiers, shifting AI interaction from private chats to persistent, visible channel workflows. The release follows Anthropic's recent funding round and confidential S-1 filing.

Claude Tag uses Anthropic's Opus 4.8 engine to divide requests into sequential execution phases, connect to corporate tools and databases, and operate asynchronously when configured in "ambient" mode. Administrators can scope Claude identities to specific channels, track activity logs and cap usage to manage data access and costs. Early adopters have used the tool for code generation, analytics queries and IT ticket processing.

For teams, embedding AI agents into shared channels reduces context switching and preserves task history, while highlighting the growing need for governance, scoped permissions and audit controls.
