The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity truly lived up to its name by creatively using Apple's iBeacon technology to make festival attendee's experience more customized and enjoyable than ever. The app was designed to personalize the festival experience by offering relevant content and the opportunity to connect with festival-goers sharing the same interest.
The festival grounds feature beacons located throughout in order to feed real-time information to attendees. Attendees can use the 'Around Me Enhanced' feature on the festival's signature app to view a list of others using the app. Meanwhile, the 'Icebreaker' feature uses LinkedIn to match festival attendees who attend or 'favorite' the same session.
Beacon technology has been used for marketing aims for some time now, but the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity showed that beacons can also be used to connect people at events and encourage dialogue and sharing of information.
