Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet Revives the Open-Top G-Wagon

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet reintroduces a factory-built convertible version of the brand's iconic off-roader, based on the Mercedes-AMG G63. The four-door model retains the SUV's boxy proportions while replacing the fixed roof with a powered fabric soft top that folds behind the rear seats at the touch of a button. Unlike the previous G-Class Convertible, the fully automated roof operates without manually releasing roof latches. Prototype vehicles also reveal a redesigned rear body structure and reinforced chassis developed for the convertible configuration.

The retractable roof mechanism reportedly consists of around 500 newly developed components. The rear-mounted spare wheel remains, now paired with a redesigned cover featuring an integrated high-mounted brake light, while the rear pillars adopt a more angular profile than earlier convertible models. Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed full specifications, although the model is expected to use the AMG G63's 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 577 horsepower with all-wheel drive.
