The Italian luxury brand Bulgari has commissioned four artists to present their personal interpretations of the term 'metamorphosis' through site-specific installations. Together, artists Azuma Makoto, Daan Roosegaarde, Ann Veronica Janssens, and Vincent Van Duysen offer their interpretations of metamorphosis at the Galleria D'Arte Moderna.
The project was commissioned for Milan Design Week 2021 and invites visitors to engage with a series of site-specific installations. Among the numerous reinterpretations of metamorphosis is Azuma Makoto's The Garden of Eden installation. This artist interprets the word metamorphosis as encapsulating the notion of life and fragility. This installation features a large brass tree with real fruits and flowers sprouting from it. Over time, the flowers and fruits change in color, form, and fragrance, which speaks to the fragility and mortality of natural beings.
