Brutalist Portuguese Sport Centers

Valdemar Coutinho Arquitectos Taps into the Brutalist Movement

Portuguese studio Valdemar Coutinho Arquitectos embraces the brutalist movement when its commissioned to oversee the design of a sports facility for the Pedro Barbosa School. It is evident that the style of architecture is enjoying a steady revitalization. The structure is characterized by an angular roof, a dominating monochromatic presence, and a concrete exterior — all exceptionally classic elements for the brutalist movement.

The style of architecture that Valdemar Coutinho Arquitectos tapped into really infuses the Portuguese sports center with some sort of utilitarian component. The firm was tasked with creating something that is affordable to erect and low-maintenance. This is yet another reason why the commissioned architectural firm chose to embrace the stylistic and material preferences of the brutalist movement. The sports facility goes by the name of the 'Atlantic Pavilion.'
