Bjarke Ingels has come up with a proposed project that should help protect Manhattan in case another storm such as Sandy hits in the future. The project would wrap around the island like a ribbon, and also offer more than just protection. This area would also be built up, and feature a walkway close to the river, opening this space up to the public.
Considering the damage that was caused by Hurricane Sandy, Bjarke Ingels is in the right position to push this project. If anything can be done in the future to avoid billions of dollars in damage, it's worth making the investment now. Many public opinion were taken into account for this proposal too, so as to ensure the people of Manhattan also got a say as to what they thing would work best.
