Sustainable travel doesn't get much greener than pedaling a bicycle, but one bike route in South Korea really goes above and beyond by addressing the concerns of the city and cyclists.
In the middle of a six-lane highway that stretches between the Daejeon and Sejong cities, there is a covered bike lane that is formed by solar panels. As well as providing shade and protection from the vehicles on either side of the road, this setup also doubles as a way to generate energy.
Cyclists are able to join these protected lanes safely at bridge crossings, serving as an eco-friendly way to bike a long stretch of road, without the worry of being bumped by a car.
