The new beer-making technology relies on light instead of heat to carry out the brewing process. This involves pointing a laser directly at a mixture of water and ethanol infused with gold-silica nanoparticles. When the mixture becomes hot, the water separates from the ethanol. Although the process mirrors that of traditional alcohol distillation, less energy is involved. The process can also be used to make a more potent beer.
If alcohol manufacturers adopt the new technology, it could become quicker and more efficient to produce large quantities of beer.
