Banana-Made Luxury Sneakers

Balenciaga Launches the New Sneakers Made from Bananas

Balenciaga, the renowned fashion label, has unveiled a revamped version of its iconic Triple S sneakers, crafted from an innovative material made from real bananas.

This groundbreaking material, Bananatex, is developed by the Swiss design company QWSTION. It is an eco-friendly, plastic-free, and robust canvas fabric made from Abacá banana plants cultivated in the highlands of the Philippines. The award-winning Bananatex fabric provides a sustainable alternative to traditional materials and supports the growth and repopulation of native plants and wildlife.

Abacá banana plants, indigenous to the Philippine highlands, require no chemical treatments, minimal maintenance, and no additional irrigation, making them an ideal crop for regions suffering from soil erosion caused by palm plantations.

The new sneakers are available through the Balenciaga website.
