Vaulted Pink Complexes

Babel Housing Mexico by V Taller is a Sculptural Tower with Vaulted Design

The Babel Housing Mexico by V Taller blends a sculptural tower with vaulted apartments arranged around a landscaped courtyard. Completed in 2024 in Tulum, the 6,178-square-metre project reinterprets the mythical Tower of Babel through a pink stucco tower punctuated with slit windows, a freestanding stair over water, and a triangular aperture directing views to the sky.

Nearly 60 units curve around this centerpiece, stacked across three levels to form an eye-shaped plan that reduces land use by 40 percent compared to horizontal developments. The vaulted apartments feature colonnades, inverted arches, and oval openings that shift with each level. The design emphasizes regional craft and environmental integration. Chukum stucco, a limestone-based material from the Yucatán, provides durability and thermal balance.

Interiors feature tropical wood and clay detailing, with cross-ventilation and natural light reducing reliance on cooling systems. Courtyards allow reforestation and airflow, positioning the project as both a sustainable housing model and a regenerative framework for tourism. The result merges symbolism, material authenticity, and climate response in a cohesive architectural statement.
