Bridge-Borne Art Museums

This Museum is Designed to Withstand Flooding & Forest Fires

The Bundanon Art Museum & The Bridge for Creative Learning is a wonderfully innovative and eye-catching museum and artistic space that was designed by none other than Australian studio Kerstin Thompson Architects, and is located in the rural town of Shoalhaven south of Sydney.

What's unique about the Bundanon Art Museum & The Bridge for Creative Learning is the fact that it's situated amid what appears to be a trestle bridge, making use of such staple elements of rural architecture like steel roofing and blackened timber.

In addition to showcasing the works of various schools of Australian art, the Bundanon Art Museum & The Bridge for Creative Learning also happens to be designed to withstand the rigors of climate change, which in the Australian context translates to flooding as well as forest fires. The design of the museum makes it function as a flood bridge of sorts, while its location along the side of a hill helps to mitigate the risk of fire.
