A New Instagram Anti-Bullying Feature Stops User Harassment
Justin Lam — October 10, 2018 — Tech
A new Instagram anti-bullying feature is being implemented on the photo-sharing app to help further thwart the prevalence of online harassment. Utilizing machine learning, this new system works to proactively spot bullying in photos and captions. Human moderators will still be used to review the content, but the machine learning software will work as a powerful tool in quickly identifying acts of bullying.
The anti-bullying feature has slowly been introduced onto the app and will continue to roll out further in the coming weeks. This new feature follows another Instagram initiative that automatically filters out bullying comments that are designed to harass or upset users. This past feature also removes spam in comments as well as in Live Videos on Instagram.
