A currently untitled comedy special staring Lebanese actor Adel Kamar has been picked up by Netflix, marking the streaming service's first original local production in the Middle East.
Netflix has been available in the Middle East for nearly two years, creating a strong demand for more accurate on-screen representation and diversity. According to a Netflix statement, Kamar's stand-up special will “tackle everything from relationships to social issues." The statement additionally notes the special will maintain Kamar's distinct comedic tone, which features a blend of quick wit and sarcasm.
Adel Kamar's strong comedic voice is expected to draw a pan-cultural demographic of viewers, as the well-known comedian has made appearances on several prominent late-night talk shows, in addition to having starred in films such as 2017's L'insulte.
