Edith Macefield's Actual Movie House Inspired the Film 'Up'

Fans of Pixar would recognize this actual movie house from the touching animated film Up.

The homeowner Edith Macefield is an 84-year-old woman who in 2006 became a small-town hero for turning down a million dollar deal to sell her Seattle home. Developers wanted to build a shopping mall, yet because of Macefield's feisty battle, the developers had to build the mall around her home.

Macfield used to work as an undercover agent during WWII and took care of orphans in England. While some citizens of Seattle consider her an idol, she said that she simply wanted to spend the rest of her days in her comforting, peaceful home. Two years later, Macefield passed away, and the real estate firm that bought her home plans to elevate the house and build a public square in her honor.
