From Contemporary Barn Homes to Hayrack-Inspired Homesteads

Contemporary barn homes are no longer for people who can't afford shelter. Instead of using these spaces for livestock only, architects have taken the general structure for these homes and commandeered them for a more modern use.

The Malbaie VIII Residence situated in Quebec, for example, takes on a barn-like structure, with an arched roof combined with wood panelling. The design fits in perfectly with the wooded surroundings. Other designs include the Black Barn, which looks like a traditional hayloft where farmer would store food for the animals for the winter. However, this design has been updated so that the look stays the same, but the inside is ideal for a family.

With a few adjustments, contemporary barn homes are actually quite chic, attractive dwellings.
