Chipotle Mexican Grill opened its first restaurant in Seoul through a joint venture with Sangmidang Holdings, operating under S&C Restaurants Holdings. Sangmidang will handle day-to-day operations, including ingredient sourcing, cooking methods and staff training, while Chipotle uses South Korea as a reference market for broader expansion across Asia.
The Seoul restaurant follows Chipotle’s existing menu model, offering build-your-own burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas and salads prepared without artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Sangmidang Holdings, which owns brands including Paris Baguette and Paris Croissant, will operate the venture through its affiliated Big Bite Company. Chipotle’s business development team is also evaluating additional partnership opportunities.
For consumers, the opening brings Chipotle’s customizable fast-casual format to South Korea while maintaining its established ingredient and preparation standards. The company plans to open two more South Korean restaurants by the end of 2026, followed by its first Singapore location in 2027.
