Paying homage to the classic prime-time soap drama Dallas, the 2018 NFL Draft ad captures a sense of nostalgia by continuing the 80s reference craze currently sweeping pop culture. The new digital short by Stun Creative in Los Angeles replaces the iconic Dallas characters with some of the most promising young prospects in football. Aside from the change of characters, the 2018 NFL Draft ad perfectly recreates the Dallas opening credits, from the sweeping city views to the bombastically cheesy theme music.
Taking cues from the Netflix original Stranger Things and the film Ready Player One, this ad is full of 80s Easter eggs and celebrates the iconic decade. Dallas is perhaps one of the most popular shows of all time and the NFL Draft ad plays on this idea in a way that is both respectful and original.
