Professor Kenji Yoshino's company speech shares the idea that businesses should foster inclusion as well as diversity rather than one or the other. Adopting this new model will help companies create and optimize on a better workplace environment.
According to Yoshino, many companies in the past have chosen to prioritize inclusion in the workforce over diversity. While the team might look more comprehensive from the outside, employers are often left to give up their identity in order to conform to the group. "It puts people to this tragic choice between their identity and inclusion," Yoshino says. "And that’s where I think that companies have missed the mark or need to update their practices."
Yoshino recommends businesses update their work model to prioritize both concepts equally to create a more collaborative space.
