Guillaume Pelletier Architecte has completed a private mountainous home project named Le Noroît. The structure is situated on a large, forested property in the Laurentian mountains of Quebec.
The design for this family home is characterized by a striking volumetric composition where a three-level structure is partially elevated above a rocky escarpment, with its upper floor cantilevered to minimize its physical impact on the natural terrain. The architectural approach draws from local building traditions but executes them in a modern manner. The exterior of the mountainous home utilizes materials such as charred timber and a dark metal roof, while the interior is defined by extensive use of red cedar. Guillaume Pelletier Architecte also ensured there is abundant glazing for natural light and passive solar gain, and adherence to contemporary energy efficiency standards.
