30 Dark Disney Princesses

These depictions of dark Disney princesses bring a twist to some of the most iconic animated female characters. Although Disney princesses are usually seen singing with a sunny disposition, these takes on the princesses tap into some of the age-old folk tales that initially inspired Disney, like those by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen.

In the last couple of years, Hollywood has been telling darker versions of these stories too, as in Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman, Red Riding Hood and is continuing to focus on a shift in storytelling from the side of the villain, like in the upcoming Maleficent film.

Some of these creations reimagine the Disney princesses as zombies, or people with real-world problems like addictions and violent warriors who certainly aren’t afraid to fight for their own happy endings.
