Guys can be stubborn, no matter how much you tell them that obesity is bad for their health, they don’t care. So you have to use ‘their language’. Tell them that their big fat belly is what is keeping them away from girls, and they just might joing your gym! The print ad for Eizens Sport Center asks you the question “Does your body work for you or against you?.” It is combined with a very clever illustration, showing the huge belly of a fat guy portrayed as a mountain he has to climb to get to what he wants. Two attractive girls having fun in their underwear are positioned at the top of the ‘mountain’ while the fat guy is seen at the bottom trying to climb to no avail. The message? I have my doubts. They will only get the ones that are fit all ready into the gym and those that have a big belly will just get more depressed and eat more when they are pictured as repulsive to women. |

Hjortur! Miss you and your insights man. Especially since you have a professional background in the subject. Yeah, now that you mentioned it, maybe it won't motivate really fat men. But its damn funny and clever! I also agree with your other "shockvertising" comment, it is indeed a fine line and might backfire. Frankly, I think here in TH we stick "shocking" and "shockvertising" to many ads and trends that are not that shocking at all, which takes away from the really shocking. I often see 'shocking' titles then open to a mild trend, certainly an 'oversell' might backfire by leaving an underwhelmed sense. Or maybe I am just not easily shocked anymore, lol. |
