Younes Baba-Ali has created an art piece that combines the comfort of a coffin with the bright lights of a tanning bed.
Entitled 'Ending Your Life Under the Sun,' this art installation/sculpture is a commentary on the migration of people from cold northern climates to warmer southern ones, especially as it pertains to the elderly. It's not unnatural for those of us who deal with the harshness of winter to fantasize of escaping to a sunnier place, and while we may vacation there, we inevitably come back. As we get older however, there is an undeniable move by the elderly to permanently leave their current cold lifestyle in order to spend their final days in the sun.
While Younes Baba-Ali doesn't state whether he believes this to be good or bad, his marriage of a coffin and a solarium system allows us to quietly reflect on the subject.
