Microsoft has announced an upcoming update to its flagship consoles that will allow for Xbox controller remapping. This update is currently only available for 'Xbox Insiders,' who are members that have opted in to test upcoming content that may be unstable. This update includes an added firmware update for the controllers as well as a software update to the Xbox's operating system.
Once both of these updates have been installed, users will be able to customize what the 'Share' button does on their 'Xbox Series X/S' controller. Previously, the share button would only enable a mode where screenshots or short videos could be taken and uploaded directly to social media. Now, for users who would rather have this button do something else, there will be several other function options, such as sending a message, launching a specific app or game, changing volume, and many more.
