The Mikkeller Wreck Ale has been unveiled by the brewery as a new libation that is inspired by beer that was recovered from the bottom of the ocean to offer connoisseurs a new refreshment that is unlike any other.
The story of the beer starts with the crash of the S/S NEVA off the coast of Læsø in 1861 that saw beer from more than 30 breweries go into the sea. After some was salvaged, the yeast found in one of the bottles was cloned to create the beer seen here, while the flavor was fine-tuned to make it taste like the original would have when it was fresh.
The Mikkeller Wreck Ale speaks to a need for libations with more character as consumers seek out new drinks to enjoy.
