Worker-Directed Florida Citrus

IMG Citrus Launches Fair Trade Certified Florida Grapefruit For Ret

IMG Citrus is bringing Fair Trade Certified Florida grapefruit to market for the first time, giving retailers a new locally grown option with a focus on worker-led community investment. The certification covers the company’s Florida farms, where grove workers help decide how funds generated through the programme are spent.

For every pound of certified fruit sold, 2 cents goes into a Community Development Fund. Workers choose which workforce and community projects receive the money, giving them a direct say in how the programme supports their needs. Alongside grapefruit, IMG Citrus is also offering Fair Trade Certified Orri tangerines grown in Florida.

The launch adds another point of difference to Florida’s grapefruit season as the state’s industry works towards a comeback. IMG Citrus also uses protected-screen production, supporting its Florida citrus offering as retailers look for products with a clear sourcing story.
