The Wiki-Bike African Bicycle Design Contest is asking for designers to create sustainable bicycle designs produced with environmentally-friendly and locally available materials.
The idea for the contest is to support the continent of Africa instead of simply throwing resources at them. According to Wiki-Bike, a bicycle can be a “tool to reduce poverty in Africa, improve access to health care, education, potable water." The proverb "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime" seems to be the ideology of the Wiki-Bike African Bicycle Design Contest.
