A revolutionary new ribbon created by a team at Cambridge University out of a cylindrical strand of carbon now makes the idea of an elevator between Earth and space stations plausible. Such an innovation would make space travel for both business and pleasure far more economical and environmentally-friendly.

How cool would it be to simply get onto an elevator and take it all the way up to the moon? Despite, of course, the inevitable elevator music torture a trip that long would entail.
