SOM's West Bund Convention Centre is a mixed-use venue in Shanghai designed by architecture studio SOM. The project occupies a waterfront site and is organized to accommodate large-scale exhibitions, conferences, and cultural events, with flexible interior volumes that allow various program configurations. The building’s massing responds to the linear site conditions, creating a sequence of interconnected halls and public spaces oriented toward the water.
The façade integrates expansive glazing and shading elements to balance natural daylight with thermal performance requirements. Large entrances and wide circulation paths connect interior event spaces with exterior plazas and the waterfront promenade. Structural elements and roof geometry are configured to support open, column-free interiors where adaptable layouts can be implemented. Support facilities, service zones, and administrative areas are placed strategically to ensure efficient operational flow during events. The SOM West Bund Convention Centre is designed to serve as a civic landmark and multifunctional destination along Shanghai’s West Bund waterfront.
