While some are silly -- such as cutting the end of one of the groom's socks to represent fidelity -- others can be detrimental to the health of the couple. For example, Tidong newlyweds in Malaysia are put under house arrest and aren't allowed to use the bathroom for three days. If they break the taboo, they believe the marriage will be cursed.
